MartinLogan

Power and Precision Delivered with Elegance

The Depth 215 is the ultimate expression of MartinLogan bass technology. The culmination of our decades of experience in designing high-performance subwoofers. Depth subwoofers are meticulously engineered to deliver powerful bass as cleanly as possible, making them an ideal choice for both dedicated two-channel systems, home theater, or anything in between.

Depth 215’s force-canceling dual 15” woofer layout all but eliminates performance-robbing cabinet resonances, allowing the custom Carbon Aerocore woofers to deliver pure bass energy without coloration. The system is backed by dual high-power, ultra precise amplifiers controlled by a class leading 64-bit Vojtko DSP engine. Every aspect has been painstakingly designed for maximum dynamic output capability, vanishingly low distortion, and exceptional accuracy.

Luxury Class Performance and Design

Depth Series subwoofers are designed to blend uncompromising low-frequency performance with timeless, luxurious design. Each Depth subwoofer begins with a massively overengineered cabinet, expertly sculpted to attain a modern, yet elegant facade, resulting in the perfect fusion of both form and function. The intent of Depth subwoofers is to deliver exceptional bass reproduction with a visually captivating design, proving extraordinary performance and exquisite style don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

BalancedForce Woofer System

Bass puts heavy stress on a subwoofer cabinet, and any vibration or resonance can blur and smear low frequencies. Depth subwoofers address this with our signature BalancedForce woofer topology. The Depth 215 uses dual active 15" woofers positioned to operate in exact opposition, so their equal and opposite forces cancel out the energy that would otherwise transfer into the cabinet. The result is less distortion from cabinet resonance and clearer, more articulate bass that blends into the room at any volume. It’s a natural match for reference-grade loudspeakers.

Carbon Aerocore Woofers

MartinLogan designed the Carbon Aerocore cone to reduce resonance and ringing in the Depth 215. Its tri-layer construction combines three dissimilar materials to strengthen and dampen the cone while keeping it light: an outer layer of integral carbon fiber for strength and low weight, a middle layer of PMI foam, a rigid cross-linked structural foam with very low mass, and a back layer of fiberglass for added damping without adding appreciable weight. The result is a strong, stable cone that stays light and responsive, so it can play nuanced passages with precision. The woofers are also triple vented and use dual copper shorting rings to reduce distortion.

Reference Grade Amplification

Depth 215 features dual 2,200W Dynamic Peak(1,100W RMS) Class-D amplifiers, for a staggering total of 4,400W Dynamic Peak(2,200W RMS). Each amplifier feeds one half of the dual 15-inch BalancedForce woofer system. These massive power reserves not only allow Depth 215 to achieve immense output capability with low distortion, but ensures the precise delivery of bass, exactly when it’s needed most, regardless of the volume level.

Convection-Cooled, Concealed Amplifier Design

MartinLogan designed Depth so that every side is “the good side.” The amplifier is completely concealed and cooled by convection, and the decorative trim along the back edges is actually extruded aluminum heatsinks. They draw in cool room air and exhaust the heat the amplifier generates, helping keep temperatures down during demanding content. The inputs sit along the rear bottom edge, hidden inside an aluminum trim piece, which keeps cables close to the floor and leaves plenty of clearance for a variety of power and signal cables.

64-bit Vojtko DSP Engine

Depth subwoofers are powered by the Vojtko DSP engine, named after MartinLogan’s Chief Audio Technologist, Joe Vojtko. Its 500MHz, 64-bit processor controls subwoofer performance in real time, letting MartinLogan engineers calibrate for maximum output and fidelity with complete audible transparency. That processing power also enables wireless app control, integrated wireless signal connection, and compatibility with Anthem Room Correction.

Optimize Bass Performance with the Award-Winning ARC® Genesis Room Correction System

This highly advanced software measures the in-room performance of the subwoofer and conducts custom equalization, tuning, and calibration to achieve the highest levels of bass impact, smoothness, and accuracy. Included with Depth 212 is a premium ARC calibration microphone, adjustable stand, as well as the necessary cables. Calibration only takes a few minutes using the free ARC Genesis software, which works on both PC and Mac.

Robust Cabinet Architecture

The cabinet plays a major role in a subwoofer’s fidelity, and Depth cabinets are built with that in mind. Wall thickness varies from one to three inches, with reinforced woofer baffles and a central dividing wall for added strength. Combined with the BalancedForce Woofer System, this rigid construction helps deliver clean, accurate bass.

Less Vibration, More Detail

Depth subwoofers combine an inert cabinet, the BalancedForce woofer system, and integrated anti-vibration feet to reduce resonance and limit the energy transferred between the subwoofer and the floor. The result is fewer room rattles and buzzes, with tighter, cleaner bass and better clarity and dynamics. The feet also help limit vibration transfer into adjoining rooms, making them a less intrusive alternative to acoustic room treatments. They’re safe for all flooring types, and optional carpet spikes are included for improved performance on carpet.

Flexible Connectivity

Depth subwoofers include wireless connectivity plus a full range of wired options: XLR for stereo left/right or LFE, RCA for stereo left/right and LFE, and an RCA subwoofer output for chaining multiple subs. Speaker-level inputs via banana plugs let the sub receive the same signal that feeds your speakers, which some enthusiasts prefer, and they work with balanced amplifiers. All inputs can be used at the same time, and the Vojtko DSP engine processes and filters the signal cleanly whichever connection you choose.

Built-In Wireless Capability

While a hard-wired connection is still the best method, for flexible placement options, Depth subwoofers come with a built-in Wireless Receiver and Wireless Transmitter. Featuring lossless transmission, forward error correction, and low latency, even the most discerning enthusiast will be thrilled with the results.

Ultimate Tuning & Control

MartinLogan’s Subwoofer Control app for iOS and Android devices offers the most personalized and convenient way to adjust a subwoofer. This allows the user to easily adjust settings such as Volume, DSP Mode, Phase, and other features providing the most intuitive control and ease of use. The Control App is also an invaluable tuning aid, enabling the user to hear the effects of setting changes from the listening position in real time.

Concealed Touch Control Interface

Depth subwoofers include a concealed Touch Control Interface (TCI) as an alternative to the MartinLogan Control app. Press beneath the “zig” logo to remove the front cover and reveal an LED screen with six backlit touch points for adjusting all available settings. When the cover is on, the TCI backlights the logo, which you can set to a variety of colors or turn off for a stealthier look.

Massively Powerful. Surgically Precise. Devastatingly Handsome.

Depth subwoofers are sleek, sculpted cubes packed with refined design touches, far removed from the stereotypical “big black box” look. Despite their appearance, they’re capable of devastating output when needed. For those who value design, Depth offers unparalleled performance, making it perfect for high-end two-channel or home theater applications.
