IMPRESSION ESL 11A
The goal of the loudspeaker is to disappear into its audio performance. Remove the loudspeaker’s effect, and you reveal the pure emotional impact of the performance, with nothing between your audio and your ears.
The Impressionist masterpieces removed the barrier between art and emotion, enhancing the potent feelings their art inspired, emphasising immediacy and movement. The Impression ESL 11A achieves this effect with an unprecedented level of audio transparency and realism.

The Immediacy of Exceptional Audio
The Impression ESL 11A is part of MartinLogan’s Masterpiece Series, delivering a powerful yet seamlessly integrated listening experience. Its dual 8-inch powered woofer system is precisely matched to an 11-inch-wide XStat™ CLS electrostatic transducer and driven by a robust dual-amplifier design, resulting in expressive dynamics, exceptional clarity, and immersive realism.
The speaker retains the defining elements of a classic MartinLogan electrostatic design. Advanced MicroPerf stator technology nearly doubles the exposed diaphragm surface area compared to conventional electrostatic panels, enhancing efficiency and detail. A reinforced electrostatic panel with rigid ClearSpar™ spacers maintains precise diaphragm tension while preserving its iconic transparency, unified by the elegant AirFrame™ Blade construction.
Beneath the surface, the Impression ESL 11A features a fully re-engineered bass system powered by dual 275-watt Class-D amplifiers and controlled by a 24-bit Vojtko™ DSP Engine with ARC™ (Anthem Room Correction). Two laser-engineered 8-inch aluminum cone woofers, each housed in its own sealed chamber, work in concert with PoweredForce Forward™ bass alignment technology to minimize wall interaction and deliver deep, controlled, room-filling bass in virtually any listening environment.

Achieving the Laboratory Standard in Your Own Room
In the lab, MartinLogan engineers pursue absolute transparency. In real homes, however, every listening room introduces variables that can dramatically affect bass performance. Room size, shape, and furnishings all influence how low frequencies behave.
For the first time in an electrostatic loudspeaker, MartinLogan integrates exclusive Anthem Room Correction (ARC™) technology. ARC measures your room’s low-frequency response and intelligently adjusts bass output to compensate for acoustic anomalies, delivering performance that closely mirrors MartinLogan’s reference listening environments.
Combined with PoweredForce Forward™ bass technology, ARC minimises room interaction and ensures seamless integration between the electrostatic panel and woofer system. The result is precisely focused imaging, natural tonal balance, and powerful, full-range performance at lifelike listening levels.
This level of refinement is what elevates the Impression ESL 11A from exceptional to truly masterful.

New Ultra-Rigid AirFrame Blade Design
Impression ESL 11A XStat panels are joined to their speaker cabinets using MartinLogan’s redesigned AirFrame Blade construction, precision manufactured from an aerospace-grade extruded aluminium alloy. This material, and this exclusive manufacturing process makes the panels extremely rigid.
The bold, forward-moving styling of this AirFrame Blade rail system, narrow and strong in front, broad and forceful from the side, is a modern design statement. It never obstructs playable surface area or interferes with the panel’s dipole sound radiation pattern. It also provides electrical and acoustical isolation, minimising intermodulation distortion caused by vibration and resonance. The flowing lines emphasise the groundbreaking integration of the panel itself with the compact woofer and amplifier section. The breathtaking AirFrame Blade design enhances imaging, low-level sonic detail, accuracy, and speaker efficiency.

Curvilinear Line Source (CLS) Electrostatic Panel
CLS technology is an essential ingredient of every electrostatic loudspeaker we produce. Through MartinLogan's proprietary manufacturing method, they have built-in the panel’s gentle horizontal curvature. This unique design enhances the high-frequency detail produced by the large radiating surface, without compromising overall sound quality. Notice how the gentle modern curve and perforation pattern give way to the flat grille of the woofer section.
Controlled Dispersion Sound Radiation
The sound we hear from a loudspeaker is a combination of direct radiation from it to our ears, and reflections off of room surfaces—walls, floor, and ceiling. How our brains integrate this information is far from simple. Depending on the angle of incidence to the ears and the arrival-time difference between direct and reflected sound, reflections can either blur detail and stereo imaging, or enhance the natural impression of depth and openness.
Electrostatic panels, which are true dipole speakers, produce a nearly-ideal controlled dispersion radiation pattern. They send very little sound to the sides, thereby minimizing side-wall reflections, whose short arrival times tend to interfere with the perception of the direct sound. Their strong rear radiation, however, produces a generous amount of natural, ambience-enriching, later-arriving mid and upper register information.

New PoweredForce Forward™ Bass Technology
PoweredForce Forward bass technology combines two MartinLogan audio innovations: PoweredForce, which allows small enclosures to accurately produce massive amounts of bass, and ForceForward, which significantly reduces performance-robbing front-wall bass reflections.
PoweredForce Forward bass technology uses an advanced crossover topology with phase-timed woofers to minimise destructive reflected energy. By virtually eliminating front-wall bass reflections and working in tandem with the panel, PoweredForce Forward Bass Technology gives you more placement flexibility and enhances the true audio realism of your sound source.

Turning Unused Space Into Better Bass
The cabinet depth of MartinLogan’s Masterpiece Series speakers is precisely engineered to maximize the performance of both PoweredForce™ and ForceForward™ bass technologies. Combined with Anthem Room Correction (ARC™), this design delivers exceptionally powerful, detailed, and accurate low-frequency performance.
Each Masterpiece Series cabinet establishes an ideal balance between woofer placement, internal volume, and amplification. Two independently sealed enclosures, one for each woofer, provide ample air volume and precise control, allowing the powered woofer system to reach deep bass frequencies with authority while preserving clarity and detail.
ForceForward™ bass technology addresses a common challenge in speaker design: low-frequency soundwaves reflecting off the wall behind the speaker and interfering with those traveling toward the listener. By carefully controlling the phase relationship between opposing woofers, ForceForward™ minimizes these reflections, reducing bass cancellations and excess energy for a cleaner, more accurate response.
This controlled bass launch also simplifies speaker placement. By minimizing rearward bass energy, Masterpiece Series speakers can be positioned closer to the wall than previous generations. As a general guideline, the rear of the cabinet should be no closer to the wall than the diameter of its woofer—12 inches for Renaissance ESL 15A, 10 inches for Expression ESL 13A, and 8 inches for Impression ESL 11A and Classic ESL 9. For additional fine-tuning, powered Masterpiece Series models include dual bass level controls at 75Hz and 200Hz.
As with all electrostatic designs, the dipole panel performs best when placed at least 2.5 feet from the wall behind it, a distance that benefits not only electrostatic speakers but nearly all high-performance loudspeakers.
